It is recommended that those who have not attended an Introductory Session attend that before attending the advanced sessions listed.
Fall Conference November 21, 2009
VETERAN PANEL CLASS
For those who have “been there, done that” this class will discuss any changes for the upcoming season as well as have an open format discussion to explore issues that beg the question “what's your score?” in this situation. We will break it down with video and live demo teams to really work our observation skills.
NOVICE SAFETY CLASS
This class provides a complete teaching of safety judging for rounds 1, 2 and 3. It goes in depth to teach all the “ins and outs” such as where to stand for the best view whether counting formations or watching those most intricate stunts. We will be using live demo teams to demonstrate a variety of skills and stunts.
VETERAN SAFTEY CLASS
Training for this class will discuss any changes for the upcoming season as well as delve into some of the most common penalty issues. Bring any issues that have been “eating away at you” from last season and get another officials perspective in an open format discussion.
NOVICE PANEL CLASS
“Let's get it started.” This class is recommended for those who have never judged before or have judged less than 4 years. This class will go in depth and teach on all aspects of officiating for round 1, 2, and 3. There will be an opportunity to practice judging with video as well as live teams.
Included in the Novice Panel Class:
Cheer Mechanics
This class is designed for the “new” official. It is a basic, fundamental introduction to officiating cheer. Things from “what do I wear?” to “how do I fill out the contract?” will be covered.
Floor Mobility and Vocals
Vocals and Floor Mobility can enhance any cheer performance! An explanation of a superior performance in floor mobility and vocals will be offered in this informational class.
Difficulty and Variety Round 1
A “how to” class with a comprehensive explanation for evaluating difficulty and variety. A professional in the cheer world will offer her tips and tricks in this area.
Precision and Execution Rounds 1 & 3
The category that sometimes separates the “men from the boys” this class takes an in depth look at precision and execution and how to evaluate it with consistency.
Jumps and Round 2 Skills
You can be assured that you will get your monies worth when you attend this class! An overview of round 2 skills and all jumps will be presented by a specialist in competitive cheer.
Execution of skills Round 3
Judges are responsible for evaluating many elements of each round. This class will offer a detailed interpretation for scoring execution and thoroughly cover the deduction process.
Choreography, Difficulty & Variety Round 3
One of the toughest areas in competitive cheer to score, this class will help guide you through the tedious chore of following a round three routine. We will start from scratch and go through an actual round 3 description, side to side—top to bottom!
General Impression
What is that “Wow!” factor and how do I score it? These are questions often asked by novice and veteran officials alike! General Impression is different for each round, this class will offer clarity when it comes to scoring.
TUMBLING AND GYMNASTICS
This is an exciting class for all officials, panel or safety! An expert in the gymnastics field will present what excellence in these categories looks like. There will be a live demonstration of specific skills with an MHSAA official present to guide you in scoring. All officials will benefit from this detailed training!
STUNT TECHNIQUES
This class uses a live demo team to show the official an up close view. The demonstration will show the stunts in correct and incorrect form. Not only will you see it up close but you will also discuss how to evaluate and score appropriately.
